A Sundance Doc Fund Supported Feature Film by Jing Wang

In Post-Production. Completion in 2025. Made in NYC.

The true story of New York City’s street heroes

Experience the unseen lives of NYC’s Chinese immigrant delivery workers with an unflinching, intimate lens.

This film explores our struggle for justice and raises broader questions about the worsening conditions and political exploitation of immigrant gig workers, as well as the uncertain road that lies ahead.

RIDE WITH DELIVERY WORKERS takes viewers on a lyrical and evocative journey, capturing the challenges and determination of immigrant food delivery workers in New York City. Through the untold stories of predominantly Chinese workers, the making of this film not only unites them but also amplifies the strength of their collective voice. The narrative follows their pursuit of fair working conditions and the freedom to ride their electric bicycles without the constant threat of hefty fines, confiscation, or arrest.

Initially an observational film by Jing Wang, a volunteer interpreter, the workers soon immerse her into the narrative, where she becomes an advocate for the growing movement. Collaborating with the workers, Jing weaves a deeply personal, first-person tapestry that explores resilience, community, and the quest for justice.

This 7-year journey spans from the mayor’s crackdown on e-bikes to the eventual legalization of their use. The narrative reaches its peak during the pandemic, as these workers are simultaneously hailed as heroic essential workers and condemned as the scapegoats for the ‘Chinese virus’.
